Strategy and Purpose: How to tell your story
There is a fundamental disconnect between the way we build and market our businesses and what our customers, employees and stakeholders truly care about. As a result, most businesses are lost in a sea of sameness, spending money on advertising that doesn’t resonate and messages that will never connect. Having a great product or service is no longer enough to create the demand, attract the best employees or build the business you want. You need to understand why this disconnect occurs in order to overcome it, succeed and profit. In this presentation and panel, we will discuss what it takes to develop a strategy to stand out and talk with businesses who have pursued this path and are growing their businesses.

Design and Developing on a Dime | Right-Sizing UX
Well done! Your newest client just signed on the dotted line, and they're ready for you and your team to deliver the "game-changing application" that will impact their business. Time is short, expectations are high, and budget is slim...all things I'm sure you've seen before.
Tough constraints doesn't mean the product's design and user experience has to take the back seat. All it means is it's time to get scrappy, and find creative ways to deliver great work with what you have.

We'll talk about a UX process that can help set clear expectations and facilitate collaboration with your client and project teams. Then jam on some time and cost-saving hacks that can help validate your solution fits your user's true need, and your project's constraints.

Rise of the Design-trepreneur
You need this ticket from Eventbrite to sign up: All Access Pass.

Designers excel in the same roles that make for successful entrepreneurs—to build and to make, to solve problems iteratively and strategically, to bring the user into focus, and to create business value. It’s no surprise that 36% of top venture-backed startups had a designer as a cofounder this year, or that many of the world’s most innovative companies were founded by designtrepreneurs (Airbnb, Vimeo, Pinterest, Slack, and Warby Parker just to name a few).

As young designers enter the workforce, many wonder, “Why not me? Why aren’t I behind the businesses I help grow?” This collision of creativity to capitalism has inspired designers of all types to start their own companies—working as freelancers, founding technologies or products, and building their own agencies from the ground up. Our panel of Columbus designtrepreneurs talk through what this means for our industry, how design is evolving and changing, and how this affects the startup landscape.
